Custom Fitted Compression Garments

After a lymphedema patient undergoes CDP (Complete Decongestive Physiotherapy), a custom-fitted garment is recommended for daily wear to help prevent swelling in the affected limb. At our wellness center in Decatur, our therapist will custom measure you for your garments as part of the Lymphedema Treatment process. This fitting is completed after the initial phase of therapy, once the limb has been reduced to its smallest size.

Compression garments help maintain results and prevent additional swelling, including edema, arm swelling, and leg swelling. With many options available, our team will guide you in selecting the right garments based on your condition, lifestyle, and comfort.

At Tuscan Sun Massage and Wellness, compression fitting is also available for vascular patients, post-surgical needs, and those managing conditions such as venous insufficiency, leg edema, or foot swelling. Many clients receiving treatment at our Decatur wellness center also incorporate compression garments as part of their ongoing care.

Daytime Compression Garments

Daytime garments are specialized elastic knit two-way stretch sleeves or stockings that can be worn under clothing throughout the day. They are worn during waking hours because this is when you are the most active. They should especially be worn while exercising.

Compression garments are not worn while sleeping because they may provide too much compression when the body is inactive or at rest. If a garment moves out of place during sleep, it can cause constriction to the limb. This may negatively impact circulation or cause edema, including leg edema or arm edema, to worsen.

Compression garments do not provide protection against sunburn and, unless an outer layer of clothing is worn, a high SPF sunscreen should be applied under the compression garment.

Compression Sleeves

When the arm is affected, a compression sleeve that covers the entire arm from the wrist to the shoulder is worn. Wearing a compression sleeve that stops at the elbow is not recommended, as it does not provide full support for arm swelling or arm edema.

Sleeves are available in several styles, colors, and compression levels. Our therapist will determine the best option for your needs. In many cases, especially when swelling is not yet fully controlled, compression for the hand is also essential. In these situations, a glove or gauntlet is recommended.

Compression Stockings and Hose

Compression stockings, or hose, are available in a variety of styles, sizes, and compression strengths. Options may include knee-high, thigh-high, or full-length garments depending on your needs.

These garments are commonly used for leg swelling, leg edema, and conditions such as chronic venous insufficiency or varicose veins that affect circulation in the legs. Some styles leave the toes exposed to reduce pressure points and improve comfort, which may be helpful for those experiencing foot edema or sensitivity.

Gloves / Gauntlets

Gloves or gauntlets are compression garments designed for the hands and are often worn alongside a compression sleeve. These are especially helpful for managing hand swelling and supporting proper circulation.

They are designed for convenience and flexibility, making them easy to remove for daily activities such as hand washing. Different styles are available, including options with partial finger coverage or open fingertips. Our therapist will help you choose what works best for your needs.

Non-Elastic Compression

Non-elastic compression garments are another option that can be worn during the day or at night. These are often recommended for individuals managing lymphedema, venous insufficiency, or more persistent forms of swelling that require structured support.

Night-Time Garments

Night-time garments are indicated for lymphedema patients when daytime garments alone are not enough. These garments provide additional support during rest and may help manage edema that becomes more noticeable overnight.

They are available for both arms and legs and can be especially helpful for those experiencing recurring arm swelling or leg swelling.
